The best Langos in Vienna - classic and delicious

Best Langos Vienna

Hot, greasy and incredibly delicious! Be aware Langos lovers - we'll tell you where you can find the best Langos in Vienna and tell you all interesting facts about the delicious flatbread.

The story of the popular Langos

Langos (also called Langosch) dates back to the 17th century and originally comes from Hungary. When baking bread, small cakes were formed from the remaining bread dough and not deep-fried like today, but baked in the front part of the oven on a low flame. So the name "Langos" (lángos, or langosz, langosh) derives from the word "flame".

Traditionally, the langos was baked for breakfast on days when fresh bread was also available. Since there were no ovens in urban households, people started to fry the langos in fat in a pan.

In Vienna, Langos is increasingly offered in winter (at Christmas markets), while in Hungary it is more popular in summer.

Langos can be eaten with almost anything

The neutral flatbread allows for almost any combination. You can really combine langos with almost all foods. Some of the most popular variations are: sour cream + cheese + ham, sour cream + alpine cheese + green onions, sour cream + bacon + cheese, sour cream + feta + herbs, nutella, cinnamon sugar, jam.

However, you should not count calories while eating, because a typical langos (with sour cream and cheese) accounts for about 860 kcal.

Our favorite variant is classic - without anything - just with lots of garlic. 😊 But where is the best thing in Vienna?

Best Langos Vienna

The best Langos in Vienna is found in the Bohemian Prater

The Bohemian Prater is located in the Laar Forest, in the 10th district and is definitely one of the highlights for us in terms of "Wien mal anders/Vienna with a difference". The amusement park is less well known to tourists, but it is very popular by locals.

It is a small amusement park with several rides, some of which are up to 100 years old. During World War II the Bohemian Prater was almost completely destroyed by a bomb attack. After reconstruction in the post-war period, it got its current appearance.

It's a lot quieter and less busy than in the big Prater, so it's perfect for all those who would like to experience the "Prater feeling" off the beaten track. In addition to complete deceleration, you will also find a carousel, a children's autodrome, a giant slide and a big trampoline.

What would a Prater be without a Ferris wheel? Of course, it should not be missing in the Bohemian Prater either. It was built in 1988, has a diameter of 21 meters and has 14 gondolas.

The Bohemian Prater is perfect for a weekend trip with the family or just to escape the hustle and bustle of the big city.

Fun fact: The oldest carousel in Europe can also be found in the Bohemian Prater.

The first commissioning took place in 1890, whereby Emperor Franz Joseph is said to have been a guest of honour. Unbelievable but true: It was the first Ferris wheel in the world to be built with just one mast. From the location on the Laaer Berg you have a unique panorama over Vienna. You also don't have to leave the amusement park hungry - culinary delights are of course also provided.

You can choose between grilled chicken at the Werklmann, a hearty stilt from the Bierstadl or various delicious sweets and desserts such as foam rolls, cotton candy, or candied fruit from the unique Sweet Tram.

And the best Langos in Vienna can also be found here, right next to the Werklmann in a small, inconspicuous stand.

The Langos dough is freshly prepared every day and does not consist of a ready mix. It is traditionally stretched over a wooden board to get the typical round shape with slightly thicker edges.

The woman who prepares the Viennese delicacies there almost every day, is an absolute ray of sunshine revealed to us that a good Langos dough needs time to rise.
