Wiener Unterwelt Führung

Have you had enough of mass tourism and always the same paths through the city? In the second part of our series "Forgotten and hidden places in Vienna", we will show you Vienna in a different way: Places that are less well-known but all the more impressive. Embark on a discovery tour through Vienna off the beaten track and experience new impressions of a well-known city. Let us take you on a journey to a different Vienna.

8. A different Vienna – the original city wall

If you want to discover historical Vienna, you don't always have to go to a museum. In this case, the history is so close - in the Stubentor subway station of the U3 line. Here you take the exit Wollzeile and get directly to an entrance in the middle of the old city walls.

This is sightseeing in Vienna with a twist! Because you don't need an admission ticket here, just the special insider knowledge. We recommend a visit during the day, when the subway is empty and you can admire the old walls in peace and experience Vienna in a different way.

9. Sightseeing in Vienna off the beaten track in the fig farm!

Figs in Vienna? This must be a joke! It's not, because on the fig farm opposite Schloss Neugebäude in Simmering figs are actually grown and freshly harvested. If you want to be enchanted by the Mediterranean scent of the fruits, this is the place for you. The Bio-Feigenhof is reminiscent of a holiday destination in Greece or Italy - in the middle of Vienna.

You can also buy and enjoy delicacies made from figs and other rare plants and fruits online from the shop, all in the finest organic quality. However, we recommend a trip to the holiday paradise that is so close by - a secret place in Vienna that you can discover exclusively.

10. Secret places in Vienna, like in the Otto Wagner villa

Away from the tourist hotspots, we recommend a visit to the Ernst Fuchs Museum in the Otto Wagner Villa. Outside the city center, in the 14th district of Vienna, the villa towers over a small hill and tells stories from times long past. Apart from the outstanding architecture of the building, one can marvel at the work of Ernst Fuchs inside.

This reflects the moving life of the painter, who curated this museum himself during his lifetime. Here you can experience sightseeing in Vienna in a different way and discover a piece of Austrian art history up close.

We recommend ending the visit with a glass of wine in Café Esther, the villa's former gatehouse, in order to let the collected impressions sink in.
